The increased CO2 adsorption performance of chitosan-derived activated carbons with nitrogen-doping.

چکیده
Highly porous nitrogen-doped activated carbons (NACs) were prepared by the chemical activation of chitosan using alkali carbonates. The NACs exhibited extremely high CO2 capacities of 1.6 mmol g(-1) (15 kPa) and 4.9 mmol g(-1) (100 kPa) at 25 °C. Nitrogen atoms doped into carbon frameworks clearly enhanced CO2 adsorption at low partial pressures.

Assessment of the role of micropore size and N-doping in CO2 capture by porous carbons.
The role of micropore size and N-doping in CO2 capture by microporous carbons has been investigated by analyzing the CO2 adsorption properties of two types of activated carbons with analogous textural properties: (a) N-free carbon microspheres and (b) N-doped carbon microspheres. Both materials exhibit a porosity made up exclusively of micropores ranging in size between <0.6 nm in the case of t...
متن کاملFacile Preparation of Nitrogen-Doped Activated Carbon for Carbon Dioxide Adsorption
Nitrogen-doped activated carbons with high surface areas obtained from resorcinol and formaldehyde resins were evaluated as CO2 adsorbents in a simulated flue gas stream under anhydrous and humid conditions. These carbons were prepared using two approaches, namely ammonia treatment without nitric acid pre-oxidation and amination after preoxidation. The pre-oxidation of activated carbons conside...
متن کاملAn efficient low-temperature route to nitrogen-doping and activation of mesoporous carbons for CO2 capture.
An innovative strategy for post-synthesis nitrogen-doping of mesoporous carbons (MCs) with high yields (>90%) at low temperatures (230-380 °C) by using a strong base, sodium amide (NaNH2), was developed. The as-prepared N-doped MCs exhibit a significantly enhanced CO2 adsorption performance in terms of capacity and selectivity when compared to their parent MCs.
متن کاملOne-Step Synthesis of Microporous Carbon Monoliths Derived from Biomass with High Nitrogen Doping Content for Highly Selective CO2 Capture
The one-step synthesis method of nitrogen doped microporous carbon monoliths derived from biomass with high-efficiency is developed using a novel ammonia (NH3)-assisted activation process, where NH3 serves as both activating agent and nitrogen source. Both pore forming and nitrogen doping simultaneously proceed during the process, obviously superior to conventional chemical activation. The as-p...
متن کاملActivated carbons prepared from peanut shell and sunflower seed shell for high CO2 adsorption
Biomass wastes are considered as cost-effective and sustainable precursors to prepare activated carbons for CO2 capture. In this study, two biomass-derived activated carbons were prepared using peanut shell and sunflower seed shell, and the optimal activated carbons were obtained at low KOH/carbon ratio of about 1. The peanut shell derived activated carbon (P-973-1.00) and sunflower seed shell ...
